Our Mission:
Compass Health Career Pathways works to end the shortage in healthcare providers here in the San Joaquin Valley. This a problem that effects everyone in the Central Valley, and is predicted to become dramatically worse with our aging population. UC Merced collaborates with local middle and high schools, on health career exploration.
Vision:
Compass hopes to increase the retention rate of health professionals in the Central Valley. We believe we can do so by creating a stronger relationship with the youth and their communities. By helping the youth understand the health problems in their community, they raise interest in solving them through exploring the health professions that could help them.
Why Compass? Guides? Explorers?
We are called Compass because, just like a physical compass, we can provide a direction, in this case toward addressing health problems. Our guides act as leaders to shepherd the younger explorers on their adventures. The explorers examine the possibilities of becoming health professionals to help alleviate the health problems prevalent in their communities.
